NORWALK, Conn. -- Former U.S, Rep. and author Robert H. Steele is set to speak at the Norwalk Senior Center on Nov. 20.
Steele, author of "The Curse: Big Time Gambling's Seduction of a Small New England Town," is scheduled to speak at 10:30 a.m., Nov. 20, at the Norwalk Senior Center at 11 Allen Road in Norwalk.
"The story is set against the explosion of casino gambling that hit Connecticut during the 1990s, when two Indian tribes built the world’s two biggest casinos in the southeastern corner of the state," representatives said in the release. "The story begins with the Pequot War in 1637, then jumps 350 years as a Connecticut family becomes embroiled in a struggle to block a third casino that threatens the family’s town and ancestral home."
Steele is a former congressman whose years as a public official and businessman "as well as his deep roots in Connecticut, including two decades living on the edge of the Mashantucket Pequot Reservation, made him uniquely qualified to write this epic story," according to the release.
