East Avenue United Methodist Church Hosts Norwalk Hunger Walk

NORWALK, Conn. – East Avenue United Methodist Church will be the starting and ending point for the Norwalk CROP Hunger Walk, staged to help fight local and worldwide hunger. The 2-mile walk will start at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21.

Other organizations supporting the event include Calvary Baptist Church, Norwalk United Methodist Church, Rowayton United Methodist Church, El Camino, First Congregational Church of Norwalk, Good Shepard, Temple Beth El, and Friends Society.

Mayor Harry Rilling and state Sen. Bob Duff will be presenting proclamations to formally declare the date as Norwalk CROP Hunger Walk Day.

CROP hunger walks have developed as a way to help provide food and water to needy people all around the world. A quarter of the money raised will be used in fighting hunger locally, and the rest will go to Church World Service, a non-profit organization that fights hunger throughout the world, both in needy communities and disaster-stricken areas, and provides other necessary services.

To participate in the walk, visit the website at crophungerwalk.org/norwalkct and sign up as an individual or start a group. Ask for donations from others or make a donation.

Registration for the walk will begin at 1:30 p.m. Donations may be made online, brought to the church at the time of the walk, or mailed to CWS, P.O. Box 968, Elkhart, IN 46515.
