The event, which takes place on National Cancer Survivor’s Day, raises money for the Bennett Cancer Center. Their goal is to raise $1 million this year.

“I’ve run in most of the charity races in Fairfield County,” says Darien resident Liz Herbert, an active runner and chairwoman of Hope in Motion’s 5K and 10K runs, “and I decided to get involved in this one because it’s the biggest and it’s the best.”

“What makes Hope in Motion special is that thousands of people come together for a great cause and that the money raised goes directly to funding services for patients of the Bennett Cancer Center. Patients receive one-on-one personal training, financial aid, education, recuperative treatments, transportation to the hospital and more, thanks to the money raised at this event.”

“I think it’s important to support local people and local organizations.”

Hope in Motion’s 5K and 10K runs will both start at 8 a.m. at downtown Stamford’s Columbus Park. A 5K walk will begin at 10 a.m. at the same location.

Performers from the Big Apple Circus and the Ha Ha Clowns will be on hand to rev up the runners and walkers.  Plus, the Stamford Museum and Nature Center will have an area at the event where kids can get an up-close look at some cute animals. And the event will feature an interactive, high-tech photo booth that emails pictures, and a rock-climbing wall.

Runners and walkers can pre-register in person on Saturday, from 10  a.m. to 4 p.m., in Columbus Park (near Curley’s Diner). Or you can register at the event. Same-day registration opens at 6 a.m. on Sunday.

If you donate or raise $100 above your registration fee, you will be automatically entered for a chance to win two round-trip tickets on JetBlue Airways. There will be two winners. JetBlue generously donated four round-trip tickets.

There will also be prizes for the overall and age-group winners of the 5K and 10K runs.
