In an effort to show support for military members and their family, Bronxville students, parents and faculty members participated in the annual event, which saw volunteers raise money and present children of deployed soldiers with new bicycles and helmets, just in time for the summer.
Each year, thousands of USO volunteers assemble bicycles and tricycles for children of military families serving on bases and ships. Then, on the day of the event, they are presented with the bikes, instruction manuals for safe cycling and a note of appreciation.
This year’s event in Bronxville was organized by Bronxville Elementary School Pam Kohlhoff.
“The event gave us the opportunity to acknowledge the spouses and children of service members in our local community,” Bronxville physical education teacher Anthony Vaglica added. “The children chose their bicycles and were able to take them home that day.”
