NORWALK, CONN. -- Stew Leonard’s is kicking off the holiday season with its annual Christmas tree lighting celebration at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 3.
There will be plenty going on at the event the giant dairy store to get the crowd into the spirit of the season, including the Long Hill Fire Department’s decorated truck available for viewing while the Sawbuck Band provides entertainment. Santa and Mrs. Claus will spend the evening mingling with children and handing out candy canes. Free hot cocoa and cookies also will be served.
This year’s tree is a 40-foot blue spruce, which was donated by Norwalk residents John and Lisa Anzalone. The tree, which had grown too large for their yard, was planted long before the family moved into their house in 1997.
Members of the Leonard family will join Santa and Mrs. Claus on stage to lead the countdown to the lighting. New Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling, state Sen. Bob Duff and Anna Zapp, co-host of the "Star 99 Big Jim & Anna Show," as wll as other local dignitaries also will be on hand to spread holiday cheer.
