Ski & Sport Of Westport Brings New Market To Town

WESTPORT, Conn. – If you plan to hit the slopes this winter and need new gear, stop by Ski & Sport Of Westport, a new full-service ski shop that opened Monday in Westport.

Located at 877 Post Road E., the store carries a variety of ski-related essentials for the whole family, from skis and snowboards, to helmets, boots, goggles, outerwear and accessories.

“We offer everything you need to stay warm, dry, comfortable and fashionable,” said store owner Susan Alberino, who runs the business with her daughter, Pamela, and son, Gio.

As a full-service store, Ski & Sport Of Westport also offers ski rentals and equipment servicing, Alberino said. Skis can be rented on a daily or seasonal basis, she said.

The store doesn’t cater only to skiers and snowboarders, though. For anyone looking for the latest winter fashions, Ski & Sport Of Westport also sells everyday coats, clothing and accessories for men, women and children, Alberino said.

Shoppers can find a mix of American and European brands, including Bogner, M. Miller, Obermeyer, O’Neill and more, she said. Additionally, the store sells ceramicware imported from Rivello, Italy.

“We offer only the highest quality merchandise,” she said.

Because the store is open all year, the merchandise changes during the warmer months to include casual, travel and yoga/exercise clothing as well as bicycles, Alberino said.

The store was founded 38 years ago in New Canaan by Alberino’s late husband John as New Canaan Ski & Sport. The family decided to close that location and move to Westport because of a change in traffic patterns and high rent, Alberino said. The New Canaan store closed Saturday.

"We felt a place like this was missing in Westport,” Alberino said. “And not only are there more people here, there are also a great variety of businesses here. Plus, this location is fantastic.”

The family also owns Ski & Sport Of Ridgefield.

The Westport location is open 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
