NORWALK, Conn. — There is just something about the seasonal marriage of seafood and summer weather.

Fortunately, Fairfield County residents have access to some of the freshest local seafood the region has to offer. Seafood in the Northeast is popular during the summer — and one of the favorite eateries that draws locals back time and time again is Overton's in Norwalk.

The small red shack off of Seaview Avenue in East Norwalk has been preparing seafood since it opened in 1948. Originally named after the Overton family, the restaurant was purchased by Andreas Gavrielidis in the early 2000s. Aiming to continue the waterfront tradition, Andreas has continued to serve classics that draw customers back over and over.

According to Gavrielidis, the bestseller is the Clam Strip Dinner, which consists of fresh clams lightly battered, fried, and lightly dressed with lemon. Crispy fries are served on the side with a tangy tartar sauce.

Overton's also served Lobster Rolls — made up Connecticut-style, prepared with melted butter and lemon. They are quickly becoming a local staple. For those who are not in an aquatic mood, the classic chili dog always satisfies a hungry stomach. To end with dessert, customers can choose from a variety of ice cream for only a dollar a cone.

Like most waterfront eateries, Overton's business is seasonal. Gavrielidis usually opens the shack around St. Patrick's Day and usually closes for the year late in the fall, weather permitting.

With this summer already a hot one to be, Overton's will be cranking out seafood specials all season long. For local boaters, water access and docking is available. For more information visit their website and menu online .
