New Restaurant To Swoop Into Westport Dining Scene

WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport’s Saugatuck neighborhood may be welcoming a new restaurant this fall at the site of the shuttered Jasmine eatery.   

Adam Lubarsky, original owner of the recently closed Georgetown Saloon in Redding, signed a lease for the space at 60 Charles St. on Wednesday afternoon, said Skip Lane, director of the commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield.

Slated to be called the Blue Parrot, the restaurant will also be a live music venue, he said.

“It will be a restaurant with entertainment,” Lane said Wednesday. “I think it will be fun. There’s not much entertainment in this town.”

The building, vacant since Jasmine closed in 2010, is set to undergo a complete makeover, Lane said. According to town records, it was built in 1952. Before Jasmine opened in 1996, it was the longtime home of the Arrow restaurant, a Saugatuck staple owned by the Nistico family.

The space is more than 5,700 square feet. It sits across the street from the Westport train station and neighbors Mario Batali’s Tarry Lodge Enoteca Pizzeria, which opened last year.

Lubarsky could not be reached for comment Wednesday, but Lane said the Blue Parrot could be open by October.

“The idea is that although there’s a restaurant boom in Westport, there’s nothing to do afterward,” Lane said. “He thinks there’s a market for this kind of restaurant, and I think it’s a great idea.”
