“We’ve outgrown our Stamford office, which is the best kind of problem to have,” said Tom Rusin, chief executive of HomeServe USA. “This larger facility in Norwalk will better accommodate our expansion needs and position us for continued growth into the future.”
HomeServe USA sells repair plans to homeowners who arrange for HVAC, plumbing, electrical or other home repair work in emergencies. The company’s website describes the service as “roadside assistance for your home.”
The company has had its American headquarters in Stamford since 2008. Since then its Connecticut-based staff has grown from about 20 to more than 100 people.
It will now control a full floor in the Merrit 7 Business Park, which will allow it to keep growing over the next several years and more than double its staff in Connecticut.
“Fairfield County has proven to be a great place to do business. Our team has grown to over a hundred employees here and we look forward to continued growth at our new headquarters in Norwalk,” Rusin said.
The move was paid for in part by funding from the state Department of Economic and Community Development. The department has offered HomeServe a $1 million grant and a $3 million loan, plus tax incentives, to help cover the cost of the $33 million project to come to Norwalk.
“A key part of our business retention and recruitment efforts is building partnerships with growing companies like HomeServe,” said DECD commissioner Catherine Smith. “With our flexible financing tools we can ensure that this type of expansion project takes place within our borders—and not in a competitor state.”
The move to Norwalk is still a work in progress, but the company held a ribbon cutting Wednesday to celebrate the decision to stay in Connecticut. Gov. Dannel Malloy and other state and local officials joined in the ceremony.
“HomeServe is a company that continues to be a leader in this innovative segment of the service industry and we are pleased that they call Connecticut home,” Malloy said at the ribbon cutting.
