NORWALK, Conn. -- EVEN Hotels marked the opening of its first location in Norwalk with a wellness celebration Thursday evening as it pushed the idea that travelers can stay healthy and fit, even while on the road.
The Norwalk location is the first of several EVEN Hotels that will be opened. The concept of the hotel is to provide a place for travelers who want to stay healthy while on the road.
"We built this brand very simply: to help people who are traveling feel better about themselves when they walk out of the door than when they walked in," said Adam Glickman, head of EVEN Hotels.
The hotel features a 1,200-square-foot athletic studio with exercise equipment, as well as workout space in each of the rooms for people who prefer to exercise in private. The hotel also hosts the Cork and Kale Market and Bar, which offers many healthy options such as organic foods, vegetarian meals and gluten-free menu items.
Many customers say it is difficult to keep up with their wellness routines when they're on the road, Glickman said. EVEN was designed to help them "keep active, eat well, rest easy and accomplish more."
Instead of a traditional ribbon cutting, EVEN decided to celebrate the opening with the rolling out of a giant yoga mat to symbolize the hotel's commitment to wellness.
The event also included a community yoga class taught by Pop Up Yoga NYC, remarks by the EVEN team and city officials, tours of the rooms and book signings by members of the hotel's wellness team, the Well, including Joy Bauer, Drew Ramsey and Tammy Stokes.
"We are thrilled to have EVEN Hotels located here with their very first hotel," said Mayor Harry Rilling. "When you open up a hotel, especially one that's a unique concept that nobody can find anyplace else, you're going to bring more people into Norwalk."
Ramsey and Dianna Stoffer led cooking demonstrations on how guests can make some of the hotel's signature dishes at home, including a kale salad and a spinach smoothie. Representatives from the hotel's partners were also in attendance with some of the amenities offered at the hotel, such as healthy drinks, Bigelow Tea, and EO Products.
