“I call it a burger bar on steroids,” business partner Greg Pettinella said with a smile.

One look at the menu and, well, he might just have something there.

Based on the trendy burgers-bourbon-beer trifecta that’s become all the rage in recent years, Killer B kicks it up a notch with bacon.

The restaurant features a “clothesline” of bacon similar to a sampling of beer or wine. Patrons can choose from a flight of three flavors — bourbon, butterscotch, fire, honey or orange — or go whole hog with the 10-piece selection for the table.

The 10 burgers on the menu range from country style with barbecue sauce and corn salad to the SoNo Sunrise, featuring avocado and a fried egg, to the Queen B with candied bacon and provolone.

You can turn the last into a Killer B, which replaces the conventional bun with two bacon grilled cheese sandwiches.

The dessert menu includes cheesecake and fried bacon-covered Oreos, as well as a 40-ounce “supershake” built for two.

Getting the steroids part yet?

Pettinella, who grew up in a pizzeria-owning family in the Naugatuck Valley, has been in the restaurant business for more than 30 years, opening Hard Rock Cafes and Wahlburgers across the country.

Killer B will be unique in another way: The 105-seat restaurant will share a kitchen and restrooms with Johnny Utah’s — of country music and mechanical bull fame — next door. In fact, customers can stop for dinner at Johnny Utah’s and then pop in to Killer B for a signature cocktail or a late-night dessert.

For the record, Killer B also offers veggie burgers, salads, fresh fruit and other options for those looking for a little lighter fare.

Pettinella believes the over-the-top character and quality ingredients of Killer B will appeal to locals.

“I think it’s going to be a good addition to the neighborhood,” he said.

Killer B is at 80 Washington St. It’s open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Visit @killerburgerandbacon for more information.
